All right, it’s Josh with The Hanson Team. You’re in quarantine. We’re in quarantine. Michelle and I, after some conversation, decided we’d shoot a series of videos on house projects or service items that you can do around the home while you’re in quarantine, just to help maybe extend the life of some of your appliances, et cetera. Today we’re going to talk about four reasons why it’s important that you change your furnace filter on a regular basis. Number one is to extend the life of your unit. Number two is to reduce your energy costs. Number three is to make sure that we’re just maintaining a healthier air quality, which is extremely important in today’s environment. And the last thing is making sure that the system is clean and taken care of.
First thing is to extend the life of your HVAC unit. The number one reason that furnaces go bad or have to be replaced is a dirty filter. Let me show you what we found as we were changing our filter here this past weekend. This is the dirty filter that we took out of the system, right? You can see all the dirt and who knows what else is on this thing, but it’s clearly is filthy, hair and et cetera. This is what we put back into the unit, right? You can see a major build up in a short period of time of how much air, dirt, filth, allergens, et cetera that are been going through the system. It’s important that you change this because as I said, the number one reason systems break down is a dirty filter.
The second thing is making sure that we do our best to keep our energy costs down. If you change your filter on a regular basis, the U.S. Department of Energy says you can save between 5% and 15% on an annual basis for utility costs.
The third thing is just to maintain a healthier air quality. As I said, it’s extremely important in today’s environment with the COVID-19 and everything else that’s going on. But on top of that, you may have members of your family that have asthma or allergies. You may have pets that are also contributing to dirty air. It’s important that you change it on a regular basis just to maintain a higher or a healthier air quality in your home. Especially for the amount of time that we’re spending in our homes currently.
The last thing is keeping your HVAC system clean. If you keep the system clean on a regular basis, changing the filter, et cetera, you can help to keep down or reduce the repair costs and the service calls or ultimately having to replace the system altogether. Again, four reasons to replace your furnace filter on a regular basis. Number one is extend the life of your unit. Two is to keep your energy costs down. Three is just to maintain a healthier air quality in your home. And the last thing is just to help keep your system clean overall. Thank you for tuning in and we will talk to you soon.
